Hi Aden. Sorry to hear about your accident. It sounds like your boss is trying to bully you out of making a claim. Since he is no longer treating you right, I say screw him and put in a claim. I found this site, which gives you a rough idea of what you are entitled to. click for link I don't know the law, but I would think with you already having a problem with your other hand, you would be entitled to a high amount.
This link click here explains the egg shell skull theory. Very useful if your boss claims you cannot sure because you had a existing disability.

Thanks Pixi, I have been a TGWU/Unite Union member since 1992. They are going to help with my claim.

Looking at the guide you gave me Pixi I'd say I was covered by:

Wrist: Moderate injury, full recovery: £3000 - £8000

and Hand: Severe injury with permanent disability: £25,000 - £65,000

Wrist Injury

Minor, full recovery:
£1,500 - £3,000

Moderate injury, full recovery:
£3,000 - £8,000

Serious injury with permanent damage:
£8,000 - £75,000

Hand Injury

Minor with full recovery:
£1,000 - £3,000

Moderate injury, full recovery:
£3,000 - £8,000

Severe injury with permanent disability:
£25,000 - £65,000

Effective loss of hand:
£42,000 - £850,000

Effective loss of both hands:
£60,000 - £1,000,000

I will aim high and get as much as I can because my thumb is going to be permanently disabled, it will affect the rest of my life going forward.
I may be able to go for the higher wrist assessment too as my wrist movement has been restricted and may never improve.

Good to hear you have a union on your side.

Best of luck with the claim. I hope you get a high amount

Don't forget to claim Industrial Injuries Benefit as well, that will give you a small pension for life and is separate from any civil claim you make.

Hi, AdeN,

I've not been on the Forum for ages, due to ill health. Having read ur posts, it looks like ur doing the right thing letting the HSE deal with it.

I hope that things will improve with the use of ur hand, mate.

Went back to work this week, it's gonna take a while getting back into a proper routine. I have been coming home knackered but it will get better. Hand is painful but usable, I am learning to adapt to the restricted movement and weak grip etc, that should improve as it all heals.
