NABD UPDATE – November 2013

NABD Grants:
The National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD) have recently awarded grants totalling a further £4,610.00 to help disabled riders to adapt bikes or trikes to suit their needs.

You've Been Nabbed 23:
Tickets are now on sale for You’ve Been Nabbed 23 rally (9th – 11th May 2014). Tickets are £25.00 each (An excellent Xmas present idea!) from the NABD office on 0844 415 4849 or via http://www.nabd.org.uk or by post from
NABD
Unit 20, The Bridgewater Centre
Robson Avenue
Manchester
M41 7TE
(Cheques should be made payable to NABD and a stamped addressed envelope should be included with the order).

The Ken Chaplin Memorial Bike Appeal:
The Ken Chaplin memorial bike appeal to honour Ken's memory by funding a new learner/loaner* motorcycle has now reached its target see: http://www.facebook.com/TheKenChaplinMemorialBikeAppeal
We intend to purchase a Yamaha ybr 125 that will be adapted to suit a particular range of disabilities and the bike will carry a dedication in Ken's honour (photographs to follow soon)

*The NABD Learner/Loaner Scheme: The NABD has a small number of specially adapted 125cc motorcycles that are loaned to disabled people specifically for the purpose of undergoing motorcycle training and tests and/or for use in carrying out rider assessments to help disabled people to gain their motorcycle licences. We have recently had 2 people pass their compulsory basic training tests using our learner loaner bikes, first one on 19th October at Coggers training school, in Burton on Trent and the second one on 2nd November at Black Country training in the west midlands

Armed Forces Bikers:
In 2012 the ‘Armed Forces Bikers’ group ( http://www.armedforcesbikers.co.uk ) made a bursary to the NABD of £2,000.00 to help fund adaptations to bikes and/or trikes for disabled members or ex-members of the British armed forces. I am very pleased to announce that this ‘ring-fenced’ fund has been used to help a number of service folk and the Armed Forces Bikers have recently decided to donate another £2,000.00 to keep this fund going.
At some point in the not too distant future we hope to be putting together some joint publicity with the Armed Forces Bikers about this fund and, perhaps more importantly, the people it has helped to regain the freedom and independence of independent motorcycling.

NABD Rep's:
The NABD are extremely happy to welcome new official Representatives in Northern Ireland , North Yorkshire, Cornwall and Northampton.
