|
|
maybe some of you know about this bike, but i just found out about it, so bare with me if it's old news for you guys. it's the Bimota Disabike.
basically the italians are building a standard, comercially available factory kit for the disabled, a kit they mount on their DB6 Delirio - quite a cool street bike.
i am very impressed as it's not a one off bike, it's included in their curent offer, being launched in 2009 (btw in the middle of the finnacial chrysis). and it's not just a fortunate coincidence, like the automatic aprilia mana. it's a market-ready disabled friendly factory built bike. here's the video presentation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-qnWOodbvg
the example on youtube shows a disabled right arm kit (e.g. right brachial plexus) but they also do it for the left arm and for legs too.
imo the company did a great thing, showing that there is a viable market segment out there. my only regret is that bimota bikes are anything but cheap.
by when will the good example be copied by industry giants like honda, yamaha, suzuki, kawa, harley or bmw? |

Anything that helps someone ride a bike is welcome, especially if it's 'mainstream'. Good on them.
However the only criticism I have is the name 'Disabike' WTF??

Well, aside from the fact it is saying that the bike is disabled
As Delboy said, it's also saying is Dis-a-bike? or is dis not a bike.....
I can imagine someone getting a fair amount of stick for riding it if you get my drift.

aah got it maybe it's part of the delirio ))
apart for the naming ( they're italians so language difficulties can be forgiven ) i can't help but to cheer for the bike! can't imagine major producers to follow soon... |
